Working out the soreness

I was fairly sore after yesterday's run so I decided to go for a long slow run just to stay moving. I ran a 5k and tried to see how far I could go before having to walk. Today I made it 2.3 miles.

3.2 miles
36 minutes
11:19 pace

505 calories

Lap 1 (run) 2.3 miles @ 11:06 pace
Lap 2 (walk) 1 minute
Lap 3 (run) 0.8 miles @ 11:41 pace

Now invited over for pancakes with neighbors, then softball.

Fell off the "Horse"

But today was the start of getting back on. Part of the week it was my own pure lazi'ness/unmotivated'ness and part of the week was due to Mother Nature going through some rough patches. Usually I don't mind running in the rain, but I draw the line at thunder and lightening. Once again these were the days I wish I had a treadmill.

But, no more excuses. I only have about 18 weeks until the Army 10 miler, and only 21 weeks until the Marine Corps Marathon....Ahhhhhh As of right now I feel very unprepared for it.

My goal for the Marathon is to run between the water stops & walk while drinking. This means I need to be able to maintain about a 9:50 pace for 2 miles repeatedly.

Today's run was, ok. The weather was perfect, I had enough water, I had breakfast, but it was still rough. I still struggle with running constantly and working through the pain. I think I need to get a few more runs in and then run with Matt. He is always a great motivator. (Yay, he is on his way home from NY).

Today's Stats:
7 miles
1 hr 26 minutes (14 minutes slow of goal pace)
12:14 avg pace
1213 calories

My knees hurt for about the first mile, but then got better. (I need to get back into taking vitamins). I was able to run the first 2 miles constant, but then it was only around a mile or less that I ran.

I have posted my goals for the week (yay, tennis lessons start this week!!!) and hopefully that will help me (and maybe Matt) to keep me motivated.

Time to check on the crab meat, trying to get dinner going before Matt comes home so we don't have to worry about it later.

Watch for more posts as this girl will be running more!

2 more runs under my belt

Unfortunately Saturday mornings run was ROUGH! First time in a long time, my knees hurt with every step. Usually they work themselves out within the first mile....not that day. So after a mile and a half of slowly (and I mean slowly) running, I decided to call it off for the day. (Plus we had to hit the road because we were leaving for Fredonia).

Saturday Stats:
1.5 miles
17:59 minutes
11:59 pace
154 avg HR
206 calories

Sunday I ran around the SUNY Fredonia campus. It was nice being back and seeing what they are doing. This run was better. I was a little sore, but given the lack of running I've done lately I'm ok with the run. Somehow I missed the trail in the woods (found it later driving though the campus with Matt's Dad) so I ran around Ring Rd, and then randomly through the campus.

Sunday Stats:
3.2 miles
35 minutes
10:56 pace
170 avg HR
486 calories

The plans for the rest of the week:
Run before teaching on Wednesday (this depends on how late I get home as my flight is delayed).
Run after tutoring on Thursday
Possible run before teaching on Friday
Long run Saturday morning

2 Runs, 1 Post

Friday: did a quick run before hitting the road for a 6 hour car ride to Upstate NY. Since I was limited on time, I used it to work on my speed. I managed to do 2 miles in 20 minutes with a 6:1 ratio.
____________________________________________________________________

Today (Tuesday): changed my tutoring around so I was free today. I worked on a more consistent slow run. I ran slow, ran as long as I could, then walked, and repeated.

Ran 1.2 miles, Walked .2 miles, Ran 2 miles, Walked .2 miles, Ran .5 miles, Walked .2 miles, Ran .6 miles.

My goal is to be able to consistently run 2 miles while doing it at least a 10 minute pace.

I need to figure out how to incorporate my running again with my Grad classes starting back up...

1st trip to the "Bridge"

So I was motivated enough to run to the walkway bridge on Wiehle Ave. I think this will be my new "measurement" route.

My path:

Had to walk up most of the main hills. The few I did manage I was huffin' & puffin' so much when I reached the top I had to walk then...not sure which is a better idea.

Rough One Saturday

It was probably around 80 degrees on my run, and I had left without grabbing water. My legs were tired and had no power behind them. There was more walking, I think, than running. At least Sunday is a rest day.

Important Memo for All Flying Bugs

I think there has been a major misunderstanding....eyes, mouths, nose, ears, or other areas that may appear to be openings...are NOT. First, if you see a large human shaped object moving towards you, it is probably in your best interest to fly in a different direction. However, if you do happen to mistakenly think the object is a friend, or that the "openings" will help transport you to another dimension, you are sadly mistaken. Please do not take it personally when we, the human race, spit and attempt to wipe your bodies away after your deadly collision with us. Here's hoping to a more peaceful and less deadly relationship in the future.

Sincerely,
The Humans

Today's run was one of the hottest of the year. I fear I will have to start getting up early in the am to avoid the humidity. Along with the weather and the lack of water consumed, I chose a new route that ended up being covered with hills. Surprisingly the run wasn't that bad. I attempted to do a 7:1 ratio, but the hills got in the way.

The gist: I ran 5.35 miles in 58 minutes. Making my avg pace 11:02. I was able to keep my average heart rate down to 169. I only burned 796 calories.

  • I want to figure out how to graph my heart rate and mileage to see if it is really getting better. I wonder if the Polar program has that capability.
  • Somehow I am still not done peeling from several weeks ago. After each run I seem to be loosing more skin...if it does not stop soon all of my innards will be exposed!
  • I have listened to an audio book on my last couple runs to see how that went. Surprisingly I seemed to be able to pay attention to that and block out the pain. I will have to try some more.

No rain finally

I got back in just before the rain started to fall again. I thought the saying was "April showers bring May Flowers." Then what happens with the rain in May? This sure has been a wet month.

So went slow and steady today. I have a few fast runs lately so I decided just to run and see how it felt. And I was pleased with the results. I ran along the back trails by the golf course, along Wiehle Ave, then hopped on the W&OD west, then along Reston Parkway to South Lakes Dr.

Best Compliment Yet

Well my shoes were finally dried out from Sunday's run, just in time for them to get soaked and muddy once again. Now they even look like running shoes.

Convinced Matt to run with me tonight. It is always great getting to run with him, especially since it is getting easier. He even told me tonight that I am starting to give him a good run. The point where I knew I have improved was when we were running at a 9:30 pace, with my heart rate around 175, and I was able to hold a bit of a conversation.

We ran a total of 4.1 miles in 42 minutes. This is around a 10:19 pace. We did a 6:1 ratio.

1st lap: 9:39 pace
2nd lap: 9:39 pace
3rd lap: 10:12 pace
4th lap: 9:53 pace
5th lap: 9:50 pace
6th pace: 9:53 pace

Now my legs are nice and sore!

Only Crazies

seem to be runners and dog walkers.... So it was maybe 60 degrees this morning with pouring rain and I went for my run. I thought if I ran through the trees they would block most of the rain. Well, either that was faulty logic or it was just raining extra hard.

So I planned on going 9 miles, but had to head back early due to being drenched including my socks/shoes. I ended up doing 7.1 miles. All in all it was an O.K. run. It was a little slower than my last, but that is ok.

I ran 7.1 miles in 1 hour 23 minutes where I burned 1235 calories. This made my average pace 11:43. My heart rate averaged at 179 and maxed at 207.

I need to put newspaper in my shoes to make sure they are dry for my next run, which by looking at the weather might also be in the rain.
